The club is open to people of all abilities. No experience or skills are needed to join.

activities

Outings and events outside of Hunter

We will be exploring meetings, seminars, get togethers, etc… off campus. These outings will help us learn as well as network with people in the industry or students from other schools. Sites such as meetup.com, freecodecamp.com, and events such as hackathons throughout the city are possibilities. We will explore both programming related events as well as entrepreneurial events.

Communication

The club will be setting up a Github account and a codepen.io account. The club also has a Facebook page which can be found by doing a search for Hunter Web Development Club. We will also be setting up a Hunter email list.

Workshops

We will be regularly doing workshops to teach members new technologies. Most of our meetings will consist of some type of programming work and learning.

resources & languages

Necessary Resources for joining the club

Go to NYC public library’s website www.nypl.org and register for a library pass online if you don’t already have one. This will give you an unlimited premium account on lynda.com. This is a great site with hundreds of tutorials we can use to learn. Another valuable resource is freecodecamp.com. The site links to tutorials throughout the internet and also gives you a list of challenges to complete. It includes programming assignments and will even set you up with real world projects working for non-profits. A good way for all of us to view each other’s work and collaborate is via github.com and codepen.io. Members should register and familiarize themselves with these technologies. All members should register for a meetup.com profile. We will be using this site to network and find events throughout the city to attend.

Languages and frameworks

The primary languages the club will learn are the essential web design languages; HTML, CSS, and Javascript. We will also explore libraries and frameworks. Recommendations regarding other technologies for us to focus on are encouraged.

Appointed positions

We currently have no appointed positions. We are still waiting for approval from Hunter. If the application to charter a club is denied by Hunter we will operate as an unofficial club.
